When Doug and Helen Webber established their fly-in fishing lodge at North Knife Lake in Northern Manitoba, they decided to pay special attention to conservation, and imposed fishing regulations more stringent than the provinces. North Knife Lake is remote, about an hour's flight in a small plane from either Churchill or Thompson. The Webbers chose it because it was the closest large lake to their home in Churchill that had no settlements and hadn't been commercially fished out. "We could pretty well call our own shots as far as fishing policies go," said Doug. Doug said the clientele of North Knife Lodge is primarily sports fishermen who are not only interested in catching big fish and lots of them, but who also support the Webbers' catch and release policy. "We encourage people not to take fish home, because if you catch all the big ones there won't be any left," said Doug. "Fish grow slowly in this cold water, and about one third to half a pound a year, and the big ones are the spawners. Pack a bag, ditch the cell and fasten your seat belt. We are going to a corner of creation virtually untouched by man's restless hand... a land waiting to be discovered. Situated in the heart of Manitoba's majestic northland, North Knife Lake Lodge is a serious sport fisherman's dream. Incomparable angling, combined with luxury lodging and gourmet cuisine complete with complimentary cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Wilderness, tranquility, FISH - North Knife Lake is absolutely teeming with trophy northern and lake trout.
